I've pretty much decided that I will never buy another car that doesn't have a black (or at least a very dark gray) interior. When I was looking for my Mustang, I refused to consider anything that didn't have a black interior. And I find that when we get test cars I automatically like them better if they have black interiors, even total base model, cloth interior cars. Then again, I don't live in sunny California anymore, and I fully realize they can be bad news in very hot climates. So what are your thoughts on black interiors? Good, bad or indifferent?

By: jackoskate 2/7/2012 8:16 AM My car is black with a black interior. I think its the best look out there. It can get hot in there in the summer but I got ceramic window tint to cut the heat down and the remote start helps too. |

By: dgaf88 2/7/2012 8:44 AM Same boat, black interior or nothing. I especially hate that light gray interior color that practically every other car made in the 80's had. |
By: lasttogo2 2/7/2012 8:45 AM I think black is the best interior. Very rarely do I think a tan interior looks better. |

By: timpalass 2/7/2012 8:51 AM Yep, black on black. |
By: SouthernGuy8503 2/7/2012 8:58 AM I'm not that picky about interior color, but I won't have leather seats. the only way I'd take leather seats is if I'm looking for a particular model (which I will) and it only comes in leather seats for some reason. |

By: racertci 2/7/2012 9:48 AM Nothing but Black interiors for me. All the other colors stain to easily. The wife had a tan last time and the kids destroyed it. |
By: fortyfordsedan 2/7/2012 10:12 AM I usually am not picky about interiors. I prefer gray or dark gray to black because to me they don't show dirt and dust as bad, with winter and spring its hard to avoid bringing mud into my cars. All black interiors just seem dark, less light inside, to me as well, but as long as they are not red or blue like everyone seemed to make them in the late 80s I wont complain. |

By: cknarf 2/7/2012 10:17 AM I love my black interior. My grandmas's 626 has the ugliest tan interior, that shows every little mark/stain. That is just terrible interior color. |

By: MrAMC1 2/7/2012 10:27 AM Black interiors rock. Give me tuck n roll vinyl any day. |
By: DaveyBoyo 2/7/2012 10:49 AM Black on black ftw |
By: DjToNyD 2/7/2012 12:09 PM i had a 2000 explorer with a tan interior and it got dirty really fast from the jean marks, to stains and everything in between. now i have a '12 focus thats black on black...... and I'm never going back!!!!!! |
By: stripedss1 2/7/2012 12:12 PM That's what I look for when considering a vehical. Nothing beats it for me. |
By: vanb86 2/7/2012 12:34 PM Im a fan of black interior. Seen too many stained like grey and tan....eww. lol |
By: ZachAkaBlackary 2/7/2012 2:51 PM you know what they say. once you go black, you never go back haha |
By: Jedirye 2/7/2012 3:14 PM Black is good as an accent color on a Tan interior. Otherwise I can't stand all black (nor gray) Black makes it feel too small on top of the heat retention during the summer. After 60k in my car, the only things showing dirt is the front rugs and the arm rest. |
By: pazuzuking 2/7/2012 4:47 PM Black shows dirt more than other colors. Here in New Mexico, that can be a problem. |
By: 74Furyous 2/7/2012 4:48 PM Black is best. My Fury is all black inside, my Charger is all black except for the tan pillars and headliner. What's with that? |
By: NikiKnuckles 2/7/2012 5:33 PM Black! Or send it back! or dark gray, like you said. |
By: BIG_CIVIC 2/7/2012 7:03 PM Black cloth looks good but attracts dust and fluff like crazy. Black leather is better. But a total black interior with no contrasting colors is just boring. |
By: huskerfan_85 2/7/2012 7:21 PM My accord has a dark brown and tan interior. Mix of dark brown and back on the dash and tan headliner and pillars. I like darker colors so yeah black is best. |
By: robpurifoy 2/7/2012 8:02 PM Always like black interior on any color car- until we got the red on red but that's an exception. |
By: potatoes4 2/8/2012 4:29 AM I prefer Cloth over Leather, as long as the interior doesn't clash or look like crap the color really doesn't matter. |
By: MizzCruze 2/8/2012 2:44 PM i agree i love black interior. the interior in my is black and red and the ceiling it like a light tan color, i would like it better if the ceiling was black too though. But either way i love black interior, tan is old lady-ish grey is ok black is the best lol |
By: Addicted2Gas 2/8/2012 6:07 PM Totally agree with the majority on here. I have always favored black interior, regardless of exterior color. Its just universal, looks better with wear than other lighter colors(in my opinion). |

By: Eli2001GSR 2/9/2012 10:29 AM cant go wrong with Black leather! |

By: SuzyBruisy 2/9/2012 5:19 PM A black interior can look great, but on the whole I find them a little predictable and obvious, like grey interiors were in the 90s. Plus they don't generally show off detail the way I like interiors to. I miss the flamboyant-colored interiors that ended with the 80s. I love the hot-red-everything interior of my Escort GT, and there's nothing quite like orange-plaid seat inserts on a Pinto or my Concord's sky-blue dash and carpets! But I haven't yet found an interior that beats this one: http://blog.cardomain.com/2009/04/10/hot-gucci-edition-hornet-interior/ |

By: williedillon 2/14/2012 5:38 AM I prefer tan. An all black interior is just too dark. Plus, it sucks here in Georgia in the summer. |
By: poplifedc 2/14/2012 5:54 AM I've had tan and black interiors. Tan take more work to keep clean but at least you can see the stains. Black interiors are fine too, but stains and dirt are still there if you don't clean it often. |
By: wrx2k11 2/14/2012 5:58 AM Black interior with cloth fabric is my favorite. You have to stay on top of vacuuming it (especially if you have pets), but black looks the best. It goes with everything. I also prefer cloth to leather. Leather is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Where I live it is against the law to let your car idle unattended so remote start and heating or cooling the leather seats isn't an option. My current WRX has a black interior with red stitching, looks great. |

By: blueville 2/14/2012 6:56 AM I was just thinking about this subject. I rent cars every week and it seems that every car I get in has the same boring drab gray, dark grey or charcoal interior color. It makes me long for the old days when interiors actually matched or contrasted the exterior body color. I got my Dark Cherry Mazda 6 with a light tan interior because I liked the contrast between the two colors. I would probably not get a black interior unless the design looked especially good in black like that Mustang or the 2012 Charger I'm currently renting. Also, I live in Central Texas so black interiors can be murderous in the summer time. |

By: JL-KA 2/14/2012 8:32 AM I like black but some accent colors are always nice. |
By: Baron300 2/14/2012 8:37 AM My current interior just happens to be black leather. First car with leather I've ever had. It's OK. But I think the best looking interiors I ever had were red cloth and set off the exterior of the car, such as the Silver 78 LeBaron I had with the red cloth interior and a couple of others that were similar. The cloth, at least in the cars I had, held up fantastically, were treated to be stain and dirt resistant, so cleaned up easily and always looked good. The black leather is nice but is rather ho-hum and, as one already said, so predictable. |

By: blaqkelectriqk 2/14/2012 9:12 AM love black, changed my last cars interior from gray to all black. but now have a 2 tone black and tan in my mustang. really like it 2 toned. and after having owned cars with both cloth or leather. id rather have leather over cloth anyday. |
By: Adrian-Hamburg 2/14/2012 9:23 AM Black is OK, both of my Mercedes have black ones. I hate grey - it looks pretty cheap. My Plymouth has tan, thats nice. My Mustang has had white Interieur - That was beautyful ! But the greatest Ive ever seen was red velours in a silver colored LeBaron. At least, it must match with the car and the outside color. By: dennyw 2/14/2012 9:40 AM Black, gray, or tan seems like the only choices we get anymore ... boring! Bring back the days of red, blue, silver, white; two-tones and tri-tones. |
By: PaulandSherry 2/14/2012 11:04 AM My 2006 screaming yellow Mustang GT has Black cloth and I love it. Most of the red Mustangs I looked at all had tan, and I think that looks cheap. |
By: 30thAnnivGT1SCT 2/14/2012 11:43 AM Black interiors are sexy. I'll settle for gray or tan if it looks good with whatever the color is on the outside of the car. |
By: I275westflorida 2/14/2012 2:11 PM I like black interiors but living in hell(Florida) means that for over half the year its hot as hell inside the car, especially having a black car lol. |
By: nicks96cav 2/14/2012 2:50 PM I would never buy another car that didn't have black interior, in the process of swapping mine to all black, I HATE that fugly light grey color that seems to be in new cars like the plague, who actually likes that? |
By: JrdnJstn2005 2/14/2012 3:51 PM Black interior all the way! I had a SUV with tan leather interior and it gets dirty quick and looks dingy all the time. I live in Texas and would much rather have black interior then tan and I will never buy leather interior as long as I'm in Texas again. Any color interior is hot in Texas. |
By: JMiller5 2/14/2012 4:58 PM LOVE EM! Black has that shine that other colors just cant compare to |
By: silver_bravada 2/14/2012 5:25 PM What happened to other dark colors besides black? I had a 1996 GMC Jimmy with a great dark blue interior. And a Park Avenue way back in 92. Now drive a Pontiac G8 with all black and it's fine. But a dark blue would be better. |
By: XtremeAudiophile 2/14/2012 10:54 PM All black! with a few red accents... Do not like anything else. |
By: lakeforestmuscle 2/14/2012 11:26 PM Black on black, or fu#k that. |
By: LN7_NUT 2/15/2012 2:09 AM I love black interiors, I have black in several of mine... and I live in one of the coldest places on earth... so the hot seat issues only lasts for about a month... |
By: trill77monte 2/15/2012 2:38 PM I dont like black interiors myself but thats the only color that year my GTO came with...:( I always like bright color's myself-like Tan... |
By: jsfury 2/16/2012 4:35 AM Black interior? Okay. Just make damn sure you have a really good working A/C unit to go along with it! Hey Suzy, AMC's did have some cool interiors. Wonder what they'd be like if they today if they survived? |
By: LancerDodge-55 2/17/2012 9:50 PM The artist in me demands color and brightwork. Black is SO Tired, unimaginative and overdone. (Not to mention, hot as Hell in the summer). Snot Gray isn't much better. Guess that's why I'm not much on any new car offerings. Give me metallic interiors like the late '50's and early 60's cars had - Pontiacs, Mercurys, Oldsmobiles, all with Tri-color interiors- TOTAL K.O.s!!! The Exteriors were just as interesting as the interiors, also - Truely rolling Fine Art! |

By: blue09rocket 2/18/2012 9:45 PM On my 2009 Sentra, the upper half of the interior(A B and C pillars, headliner, oh sh** handles) all ugly beige, even though I have a dark gray lower half, so i disassembled everything and painted/dyed the beige all black, and I LOVE IT |
By: NJZGuy 2/19/2012 6:09 PM Interior of my Z is black with carbon fiber accents and the upholstery in the ceiling is light grey, and the black Sparcos have matching stitching. If there was one thing I could change about the '07 Z, it would be getting rid of all of the plastic in the interior. I plan on fixing that with some Alcantara when I'm able. I would take a black or dark graphite interior over any other color... |

By: NellsJavelin 2/21/2012 7:19 AM Personally, I could NOT live with a black interior. Firstly, I find them depressing. Dark... gloomy... They do look great in some more expensive cars, but living with it? No thanks. Second, dust shows up like crazy. Third, it soaks up the heat. So far I have owned 4 cars. The first had maroon velour. Next, blue velour. My Crown Vic has a gray interior, and the Javelin has a blue one. I worry about replacing the Vic, because so many police package cars, which will more than likely be the car's replacement, now have black/charcoal interiors. BUT, to each his own... |

By: mustangmarty 2/21/2012 7:38 PM What I am tired of it the limited color availability in cars today. It seems that we are relegated to shades of tan and gray. When you do find black, it’s actually a dark gray. It started in the 90’s as manufactures began t offer packages rather than options. I personally like black (it took me a year to find my Escape with a black interior without a black or silver exterior), but I wish other colors were available like blue in my 84 Mustang and 85 ASC McLaren, red in my 84 GTI, and chamois in my 79 Mustang. |

By: SlinkinLincoln 2/23/2012 6:05 AM I have black leather in my '07 MKZ and its colder than I care for in the winter, and hotter than hell in the sun- I got the heated and AIR CONDITIONED seat package though, so balancing the temp isn't too bad- as far as looks go- had to have the black. I've got black carpet, seats, interior door panels and the center console is as well. Working on re-lining the roof and top half of the doors/ pillars. Thinkin about making it murdered out- but chrome looks good I can't black it out. |
