Automotive News is reporting that Subaru is developing a turbo 2.0-liter boxer that could generate 280 hp and 250 pounds-feet of torque. It is expected to debut in 2014. About time! Pic from JsBRZ's Subaru BRZ ride page!

Developing? Don't they already have about 1 million turbo boxers? WTF?

They have "about a million" turbo 2.5 liter boxers... Not 2.0...from what I understand (which may be wrong) the current brz 2.0 motor has too high of a compression ratio to turbocharge as it is. With that being said, some development is required, however, I can't imagine much

They wont drop the 2.5 turbo in this thing because it will step on the feet of the STI. It will still probably be a better car than the STI with 280 hp rather than 300 but in terms of their flagship I doubt Subaru would undermine their own. With turbo power if it cost more than 30K they have to be very careful thats big boy territory (370z, 5.0, SS, etc.)

Does anyone else think that the BRZ and the Lexus at the top of the screen look very much alike? (Beyond the fact that they have the same parent automaker).

I knew they would do this eventually to fix the only flaw of the car, the lack of power. Now I might actually buy one :)

I don't think this is a surprise to anyone.

Well I would agree that more power is always a good thing but if the car is already $25k to start with, the 280 hp version would put it in the 30's. I still wouldn't pay 30k for it but some rich high school kid would get his parents to pay for it.
