Man, if you can run that through the DMV in CA then you can get away with anything anywhere! Pretty funny story.

Thats pretty messed up. They had to have done some sort of check of the VIN before they sent them a title.

fix - Do they look or sound like they're from the south? They look more like Cali material to me. By the way, unless you couldn't tell, they were telling the story on their show, whatever the hell that was. So they did that to waste time more than likely.

*raises hand* Guilty. I had this same thing happen to me back in college. Bought an old Dodge Colt commuter that hadn't had a clear title for the past 4 owners... it just kept getting bought by morons like myself, only to realize they couldn't do anything with it, and sold again. My DMV wasn't as helpful. Finally sold the blasted thing as scrap metal, and lost about $500 on it. Lesson learned though... if there's still a signature on the back of the title STAY AWAY!

I cannot F@*%ing stand listening to these two pipe puffers. What a horribly narrated story. I'd rather listen to Steven Hawking tell it with his robot voice than these two limey bastards

this is such a boring show...there were a couple parts of that story that were actually pretty funny, but they told it so terribly that they sucked all the life out of it. Also the guy on the right kinda looks like garth with different hair, just wish he was as funny..

I've run into a similar issue where the title hadnt been processed over from the last person.

See here in pa its not possible to get scammed like that. You have to go to a title transfer place and you either have to bring the title or they look it up. When I bought my truck the guy didnt get the title from when he paid it off he told me if I wanted I was more than welcome to leave the truck at my house then pay him when the title came in. Thats a true honest person there!

Truck won't start, then, back from the DMV it starts! No mention of how or why. Cut out the middle man and go straight to auction next time.

never bought a car off craigslist yet.... but checked out many and not kidding, every seller has lied or hid something major about the car.

1 I'll give y'all the best reasons not to buy a car off of Craig's List, off the internet,or through a local website,. I'll admit there are lots of honest sellers out there.BUT,there are just as many scammers. Case in point.Last year I was searching for a good used car for my wife,as we're on a fixed income and we didn't want any car payments. I started my search.I found a lot of ads, like 2005 Honda Accord excellent condition,PRICED FOR QUICK SALE!(priced too good to be true, far below market value for similar year and model vehicles ). Then, you E/M the person to for an appointment see,and drive the car, they tell you that the car is located in another state(at least 500 miles away). Then,it gets even better. The person gives you a very (Patriotic)story about their impending military deployment to Zimbabwe or some place, and offers to have the car and the paperwork SHIPPED ABSOLUTELY FREE! Just send them an electronic payment or a cashiers check, and your money will be GONE FOREVER FOR A CAR THAT YOU'LL NEVER SEE,THAT THEY NEVER EVEN OWNED,OR EVEN SAW! Just ONE example of many scam variations.

What a dimwit. Yes you are a child as demonstrated by your backyard tazer playtime. For the mentally deficient and those with infantile like mechanical apptitudes, stick to public transportation.

If you are a 'bearded child buying a car', ask an adult to come with you -otherwise, what you really are is a moron. If you don't know anything about cars, the grown up thing to do is to learn about them. I like hearing stories about stupid people like this losing their money. Too bad these bozos didn't get stung because they might have learned from their mistakes.

Hey - we all get screwed at some point on a car. I bought a car from a wrecking yard without a title, to find out it was purchased from a storage facility that auctioned the contents of the unit to cover the bill. The car had been terribly vandalized and was, as it turned out - stolen. The previous owner was still ticked about it and demanded the car returned to him (though insurance had covered the loss years ago). Then since he was using the title illegally for another car (same model) he tried to get his attorney to scam the wrecking yard owner into coming up without a title for his car under the precept that it was the other car. The wrecking yard owner thought it was my father's lawyer and now my father is banned from the wrecking yard. How's that for messed up?

Wow...I'm not sure if I hate these two or want to have a beer with them. I've bought many cars off of craigslist and treat it the same way I did the old school want ads;never leave without the title. Ever.

That wasn't a taser, tasers shoot probes on wires using CO2 propellant. that was more like an electrified baton. "There's an engine in there"= only buy new cars w/ warranty or bring along a mechanic/friend who'll inspect the vehicle and slap you upside the head if you try to buy without a clear title.

Why did it take almost 13 minutes to tell a 5 minute story. Couldnt have happened to more deserving idiots. Hey, if you're reading this then I have some beach front property in Nevada to sell you.

Huh. I did the exact same thing. Bought a 1998 Cadillac Eldorado off a guy selling it for $2500. Told me the only thing wrong with it was a bad fuel pump. I handed him the money and he tells me that he doesn't have the title, he bought it off a friend after his dad died. Now it's sitting in my driveway with a blown head gasket and I have a court date for driving an unregistered vehicle.
