I’m generally not one to post up about the environment, politics and or government affairs. After watching the trailer for “Earth 2050″ however it seems painfully obvious that if we want to keep enjoying the vehicles we love, that most of us should take notice of what’s happening to our planet. Click through and check it out. You can also view the full length video (42:39) here.

I would really like to watch this, but the fact that it's produced by Shell Oil makes me think it's more propaganda than anything else.

while it is obvious that we, as a people, should give some effort to reduce our negative impact on the earth, the government seems to try to put all the blame on the car manufacturers and the consumers while ignoring obvious problems such as poor traffic management systems. if i had a nickel for every time ive had to stop and go, thus wasting gas, due to a timed red light that had no traffic in that direction, i would never have to pay for gas again. stopping and going consumes the most fuel and if our government wants us to be responsible then they should be too. fix our shitty traffic management!

These new alternative transportation solutions will be expensive. OK for the richer countries but the improvments made will be vastly overshadowed by polution from China and similar countries. Politicians will be of no help. They look no farther ahead than 4 years.

Anybody wanna blame Global Warming on that massive ball of fire floating in the sky?

^TDWPgtp, I'll second that. It's the same here in Japan. Too many traffic lights and zero round-a-bouts and you can't even make U-turns and have to drive right around the block. VERY annoying.

So where is the energy coming from in Masdar to power those electric vehicles? I don't imagine they are using complete solar, wind or nuclear power to generate that electricity. Which means that coal is still being used to generate the power for that city and that carbon is still being polluted in to the atmosphere. Clean coal technology is a major topic of discussion, but we're no where near carbon-neutral anywhere in the world!
