First Mod!

There are two things that have always bugged me about 2005 to 2009 Mustang: the stupid prop rod and the stupid long antenna. I think I had owned my new 2007 GT all of one hour when I went to American Muscle and ordered this shorty antenna. Came in the mail yesterday and I just popped in on now. Looks better, no? I'll sort out the prop rod thing later. But I think the next mod is gonna be 4.10 gears.

What was your first mod to your new ride?

 The old look:

I love the car btw, but both the antennas bug me haha i would replace it with a flush mounted antenna or have the dealer route the antenna through one of the windows... just my 2cents. great choice on the car!

Maybe not the first mod but during the process of painting my '88 IROC I shaved the antenna and the original spoiler holes (went for the aero-style wing) The wing/spoiler is a matter of preference but removing the antenna definitely makes the fender look a lot smother. I was pretty proud of that.

looks good... as far as your prop rod... get some hood struts.... they work great and you have plenty of real estate under the hood to mount it

I remember my first mod, aftermarket intake. I think that was almost everyone's first mod lol.

First mod was a set of gt40 heads and intakes on my mustang, probably not the best first project but I would do it again anyway.

my first mod to my z was a new engine haha i don't mess around. fortunately, before i bought it, the previous owner had drilled and slotted brakes, and adjustable coilover suspension. if i got it bone stock, i would have done the suspension right away

Flush mounted antennas look interesting but this was cheap and easy. Yeah, looking into the hood strut options but it's not that pressing. Oh, and my first mod to my old Mopar was disc brakes!

I did the same mod when I got my Shelby, only I ordered the antenna before I even had the car. The hood struts are a must, throw that hood prop away.

Which brand hood struts did you go with?

Just like your car my first mod was the antenna. It bugged the hell out of me as it was almost a meter long and non-retractable. I think the next mods were changing from orange to clear side markers.

Rob- a guy I work with did the 4.10 gear swap in his stage 1 Roush (Glorified GT) and it made an EXTREME difference. Car doesn't have that "laggy" feeling at all, and turns the tires over pretty quick. He also has a set of the "Hot Rod" Cams, and it sounds amazing, only thing is you have a couple other things to make those work.

doesn't roush also do independent suspension?

antenna was first with my mustang also along with the grille delete. I had that same antenna and it snapped off in a carwash so be careful. I replaced it with a 3" stubby antenna from UPR. If you want to get into modding your mustang then I suggest grabbing an issue of 5.0 and Modified Mustangs and Fast Fords. They have a lot of good tech articles and lists of companies with parts. @iTurbo-the only modern mustang with IRS is the 03-04 SVT Cobra's.

Check for slack in the throttle cable at the gas pedal and make sure the throttle body opens all the way. If not, zip ties. It made a big difference on my old Ranger.

It usually depends on the vehicle. One of the first is usually a stereo that sounds good but on pickups the first thing I do is build a front bumper. We have lots of deer so it is nice to have something to protect the radiator if I hit one.

The first thing I did to my Ranger was I painted some Pearl White Tribal Flames about after I bought it. I lowered my S-10 4/5 with a Belltech kit first.

What you need to do is get rid of those awful rims.

My first mod is removing the dealership sticker on the back. I don't understand why Ford hasn't integrated the antenna into the rear window. I'm sure it's to keep costs down, but it would look much better w/o that mast sticking up.

It's been a long time since I "modded" any cars, but the first thing I did with my first car was a simple set of cheap hubcaps to cover the steel wheels.

My first mod to my car? it was a LOT of gorilla tape on the lower radiator hose!....then ten miles later it was a tow ride home...Moral of the story is that its a bad idea to buy a car late on Easter Sunday! I love my car though best one I have ever owned...hind sight is 20-20, I could have nicked a hose from my grandmothers car with the same style and engine as mine on the way to buy mine.....saved 5 hours trying to bring her home.

Got rid of the junk wipers and put on a set of Silblade Silicone Wiper Blades. I have been using these for 12 years on every vehicle I own and they always work great.

First mod was the Steeda street wing. The day after I bought it I was out in the driveway drilling through the trunk lid. Thought my neighbor was going to have a heart attack.

I'll agree with Deeko_91 and take it a step farther... I disconnect ALL the noise-makers in my cars, as well as DLRs, if they're present. I grew up in a time when cars did what you told them to do... and I like it much better that way!

My first mod, involved stopping at BestBuy on my way to the dealer to get the wiring harness and brackets to mount my stereo. I installed it in the dealers parking lot right after signing the papers.

Back in 1967, I was 16. My mom bought me a 67 SS 396 (I know, I was spoiled) I didn't know anything about cars but the first weekend my mom was gone, I changed the cam to a 425 hp with solid lifters. Quite an improvement. I put the distributor in 180 degrees off and freaked out when it barely ran. I figured it out finally and all was well when my mom got home.

I hate antennas in the front of the car. I'm glad for 2010 the mustangs got moved to the rear. First mod was a 3 inch magnaflow competition cat-back exhaust with 5 inch magnapak mufflers. Second was a roush CAI. Next I'd like to add matter black bullitt staggered wheels.

My first mod on my current MR2 was to stop at the gas station one block from the seller's house, and install a missing bolt in the passenger side rear trailing arm. :-D The first *actual* mod came a few days later with a quick release suede covered steering wheel. I have a buddy who ordered 6" straight pipes for a 1996 993 Porsche 911TT...six MONTHS before he found the 911 he finally bought haha!
