2013 Ford Taurus SHO Road Test and Drift Attempt

Can you drift a 2013 Ford Taurus SHO like NASCAR racer Carl Edwards does in the commercial? I tried and couldn't. This press car didn't have the ESC button in the center console to disable the stability management system so try as I might, the car would never get sideways. Hit the jump to watch the road test and drift attempt...

I did however find out how great this car is at being a world-class sedan. Around town and in the canyons, this 4400 pound vehicle feels flat out nimble.

It's also pretty fast, 0-60 in 5.2 seconds will get your attention and the immensely capable all wheel drive system, huge brakes and fantastic suspension will keep it.

I'll go on record for loving the eco-boost engine platform. The 3.5L Twin Turbo V6 is only mildly laggy at the low end but more than makes up for that once it starts to rev. The practical side is that you could use all 365 horsepower in this car and still manage fuel mileage in the mid 20's and then on the highway settle in at about 30 MPG.

Would I own one, heck yes...as long as it had that ESC button in the center console to disable the stability management systems so that I could four wheel drift the tires off the thing.

What do you mean you can't drift a FWD sedan?

This thing is all wheel drive, and a seriously killer system at that...with transfer case coolers and such. i saw a commercial showing this car four wheel drifting like an M5 would and wanted to try. I just failed to realize this particular press car didn't have the disable button until I was already at the track.

Nice Paint job, these cars are great but the price tag creeps up into the high 40s. I could get a G37X and be just as quick while having a better interior. I would also consider the 300c Hemi with 4 wheel drive.

You are right M45, this car is $46k as equipped. That's almost as much as an SRT8 300C and the sound of the Hemi wins that battle no doubt about it. I hate to sound like a dang granola eating hippie, but I've never flogged a car as hard as this one and still maintained good gas mileage though...does that count for anything? I'm still on the fence.

Those SRT V8s sound monstrous. This is a great car no doubt, but for the money there are a ton of options out there.

4000 pounds that floors me, that's as much as my 7 passenger Acadia! But, the Acadia, doesn't perform like this thing does! I agree about the Nannying! Let me decide how I want to control my Car, I hate the fact that I don't have complete control over that. It's like when you select it, it's just a "make you feel good" button but, it doesn't actually shut it off! So Frustrating. I wonder if they do that for Warranty purposes???

The Ecoboost V6 needs to be put in the Mustang and labeled the SVO... The SHO is a decent car, but I think Ford can do better.

those are some of the worst rims i've seen in a while. and that paint color is not for me. the tt6 and AWD are cool, though i'd never own this car

Man that SHO is a bad ass car. Don't get me wrong, it is expensive and the R/T Charger seems like a better deal in hp but it seems Ford was getting another point across..........this thing hauls ass with 30 mph on the highway. So for those who want speed and good mpg, this may be the way to go. I got a 2010 Taurus (not a SHO) and man I love it. It's 263 hp and I was a little shocked at how it rides. I LOVE the paddle shifters. That's one of the main things I like about it. I got it as my daily since I drive 1 hour to work one way. It takes 87 octane and gets 27 mpg (I get that most of the time but the highest was 30 mpg hwy). The car aint bad.
