Automotive News is reporting that the 2015 model year Challenger will be all-new and significantly smaller, with a wheelbase two or three inches shorter than the current car. The article goes on to state: "Look for an SRT version from the new platform, likely resurrecting the Barracuda nameplate, and featuring a new 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, to appear earlier in 2014." There seems to be some doubt over at Moparts about the likelihood that Dodge will resurrect the Barracuda name. Time will tell...

Really? The SRT-8 Challenger will be a "Barracuda?" Why dont we start calling the performance versions of Camaros "GTO?" Im all for the idea of breathing new life into old cars, the Challenger itself being an exceptional example. But with Plymouth dead and gone I say the Barracuda nameplate should stay dead too. The car itself seem like it will be great, but automakers should quit trying to capitalize off of the popularity of dead cars from dead brands

Agreed. They decided to kill Plymouth. So be it. No going back to steal names. They can't have it both ways.

Supercharged 6.2? That should be nuts. Hopefully smaller and significantly lighter. The Challengers could easily stand to lose 1000lbs.

Would not be surprised to see Chrysler rape another one of it's namesakes.

If the company is dead the name should remain dead also, just lighten it and make sure it can hang with the camaro and mustang and be happy instead of trying to revive a name for a few more sales.

I don't know. Plymouth may be dead, but now that SRT is it's own brand, I wouldn't mind seeing an SRT 'Cuda. It kinda rolls off the tongue quite nicely. Besides, Mopar fans are screaming for a new Barracuda with all the Cuda conversions for the Challenger and whatnot. It only makes sense to revive the name.

Sorry, no Plymouth, NO Barracuda! Chrysler could bring back Plymouth and start making the Barracuda, road runner and maybe the Prowler. If they did that, they would make sales!

I don't see what the big deal is, it's still 70% of a Chrysler product right?!!! It used to be Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge/Jeep/Eagle...I think whome ever owns who has the right to bring back whatever possible name sakes they're willing to buy the rights for. You know what SRT really stands for? Add another $20 grand...so a $30,000 car is now $50,000. Yes, the Challenger could stand to a. loose some weight b. have a lower ride height and c. use smaller diameter wheels, I hate the fact every car manufacturer feels the need to put 20" wheels on sports car. A new Barracuda would be kinda cool as long as it doesn't go by way of Charger with 4 doors or Dart as a reborn Neon.

Having owned a Barracuda back in the day, I would be interested in a new one. You may ask, what's in a name, but back then, you had the Challenger owners - a car that was considered more luxurious, and the Barracuda owners - a car that was more lean and mean. If the new car had been named Barracuda all along, I would be more enticed to own one.

Bring back the Maverick and the Comet and drop in a 460. Now that would be fun. I do like the Challenger though.
