Totally nuts! This tube chassis, turbocharged Cummins-powed Stang ran a 5.30 in the eighth, which means it's capable of running the quarter in the 8s. Oh, and it reportedly runs on used cooking oil! More at Bangshift, and you can watch the vids after the jump!

I know why they call it the Cum-Stang.

Hmm... I wonder if it also shows face at the local truck pulls...

These are perfect videos to make treehuggers watch just to piss them off. I see it's 3 turbos and from the videos it seems like it takes awhile to get all 3 wound up.

actually treehuggers love diesels. fail on both counts... all they'd do is convert it to veg oil or whatnot and worry about gas mileage lol.

fail on my part as well...its already running oil.

5hen- I was talking about the black smoke. Also from what I've seen and read, you don't have to do anything to convert a diesel to run used cooking oil or bio-diesel.

actually you need to filter the shit out of it, then preheat it to lower the viscosity of the oil as well as run an auxilary tank...start on diesel, switch over to oil after warmed up to operating temp, then switch back before you shut it off. also different injectors and hotter glow plugs are sometimes needed.

unbelievably amazing, those plumes of black smoke almost wish I had 3 turbos and bio diesel... but not.

Not smoke...soot, I thought this was common knowledge now

5hen - It might be better to do all that (of course always filter), but I've seen it done where the diesel ran from straight cooking oil with no mods to anything. It even smells like french fries while driving. As for bio-diesel, I know there's a whole process to make it. But, I've seen people use straight used cooking oil and work fine. NFS - Well now I know, but I've always heard it called smoke, even by hardcore diesel owners.

Cummins...good choice better than a powerstroke and Duramax anyday

he may need to move the exhaust so he can see the tree. honestly could not see the lights trrough the soot. would be crazy with a pair of stacks sticking up through the hood

@albania_fier You obviously haven't seen the new power stroke. Cummins are good engines, though.

Haha you guys, the black smoke is just carbon. Diesels run extremely clean. That black smoke is about as deadly as the carbon dioxide you exhale every from breath!

That thing's pretty fast but damn, taking that long to build boost is BRUTAL on a transmission and converter. Also pretty useless in the real world, by the time you actually get any power the other guy's already finished the quarter-mile. LOL

Why does this always degrade to a "real cars vs tree huggers" battle? I love a good inline 6 diesel, and this one certainly qualifies. That said there is a study that says diesel soot is so fine that if you inhale some of it half of it will be permanently embedded in your lungs. I don't know about you, but I don't work in a coal mine and I don't smoke so I would rather not have black lung. That's why when I am cheering at a tractor pull I stay upwind :)

What a beast. Well done. Best of all, it'll run on nearly anything oil based. What a cheap way to drag race. See if you can find a supplier of poppy seed oil. I had a friend who use to run his diesels on that, and it was so easy on the engine, as it was a nice thin oil. He just boiled the water out in a tall cylindrical container, and poured it into the fuel tank once cooled down. But it might be easier to get here in Tasmania where we grow the poppies for the alkaloid industry. It's almost a waste bi-product. He use to get it in a 1 tonne plastic container on a trailer. Cost about 80c a litre once processed. Grats on the sub 6sec run. That thing really motors when it gets going. 5 Stars.
