Horrific Ferrari F430 Wreck in Belgium

There's not much arguing you can do with a concrete guardrail, and as it turned out, this terrible wreck in Belgium over the weekend was not even remotely survivable. The sad part is that the passenger was the 15-year-old son of the driver's friend, who'd asked for a ride home in the F430 from the F1 Belgian Grand Prix they'd both attended. See the full story at GTSpirit.

What a dick. What kind of idiot would drive that recklessly with somebody's kid in the car.

according to the comments of an witness the car was going in exess of 200 KPH (124.6 MPH) 20-30 secs before the wreck. The driver was 63yo!! what was he thinking taking that car to those speeds on a public road? and with a minor in the car? at least they didn't suffer. may they rest in peace /\

I can't imagine what those few seconds was like for the driver and passenger on this exotic car. Well Ferrari here is your headline...Stupid wealthy people, that has so much money to buy these cars and drive it as if they are Michael Schumacher to show off and end up either dying or getting seriously injured really does not make no sense at all, With all that wealth and money you think it can buy their life back? Another history in the making for the famous Ferrari F430. Some would say they died in style. Me I'd say a stupid style way of death. Oh well I am glad I got the most exotic ride of them all, It is called The Bus, and my chevy-legs. Gets me to where I want to go in one piece not in pieces.

Is it wrong for me to download the picture and zoom in to admire the dissected parts of the wonderful Ferrari? I’m with the police at the back checking the engine out—definitely a petrol head! Lovely carbon fiber chassis, the suspension is a wonder, and the interior is art! Oh, and my condolences to the friends and family of the deceased…

This is just wrong, I got my first car at 19 (350z) Which I bought on my own btw before anyone says mommys and daddys money. I would do stupid shit with that car the first year, then I matured and with gas prices going up and work not being too good I would drive it like a grandma and no go over 65mph. One thing I never ever did was drive fast with a passaenger, no matter what Ive always believed if I'm gonna do something stupid I'm killing myself and myself only, which Is why I only did it sometimes at 3am on empty roads by myself. Then one night last year, my car shutdown and I had to go to the side of the road. Put teh hazzard lights on but it was raining and crazy dark. Two cars evaded me yet a third guy who was driving too fast on an expedition didn't see me and rear ended my car, Killing my best friend who had just turned 21 and was a beautiful girl whom I had known since she was 14. therefore, I really can't find any humor in this. The guy had 5 people in his truck and they all survived. But we all couldve died and then it wouldve been 8 people instead of one. In a matter of seconds he pretty much destroyed my friends parents lives, and made me need anger management, have muscular problems for months and cause my wife to leave my house because she couldnt handle my anger problems, not to mention I lost my memory about the accident and many things. I only know because of police reports. With that said I can't even imagine the pain this kids dad most feel knowing he couldve taken his son with him home instead. Anyone who drives at these speeds on the highway is a complete idiot, whether you are a rookie or freaking andretti, it doesnt matter.

That's defiitely a tragic incident to read. Too often irresponsible and inexperience people get behind the wheels very fast and powerful cars and use it where it endangers others life. My thoughts and preyers go out the the family

Definitely tragic. High horsepower, high torque, rear-wheel drive exotics should be driven at high speeds only by someone who understands the dynamics of the car, and preferably not on a public road at night. And never with a 15 year old in the car. Too many times we have all seen these types of wrecks where a driver loses control and crashes, often with disastrous results. Know your limits as a driver, and know the limits of the car (including its traction, brakes, steering limits, etc.) if you want to drive above normal speeds in any vehicle. A shame that a moment of ignorance costs people their lives.

This is so sad. There are a lot of dangers out there we face as drivers and we need to be most vigilant when we drive and never take anything for granted.

Very sad. The driver was probably trying to impress/show off for the kid and ended up taking both their lives. I do feel sympathy for them and their families. The driver was a complete moron, but he was probably just wanting to give the kid an exciting experience to remember. Everyone makes mistakes. It's just a sad fact that some mistakes, you just don't walk away from.

More money than brains. If you can afford a car like this, learn how to drive it at a driving school for fast cars. They are everywhere.

Let me guess, the driver was a former member of The Banana Splits. They were four comedic animal characters that featured in a late 1960s children's variety show made for television. They drove Banana Buggies (Amphicat six-wheel drive all-terrain vehicles).

Why do we give these retards a license? Let alone a high end sports car? I keep saying that there should be an extra endorsement on your license for "Sports cars" that includes training and instruction on a closed coarse. High performance vehicles are much more difficult to drive than the Honda Civic or Prius you may have learned to drive in. They do it for motorcycles so why not cars in excess of say 400HP?

And this is why you don't give keys to a fast car to a 63 year old. I don't think bifocal glasses work at night.

Words can't express what I feel about this! I'm absolutely livid for the driver, but for the 15 year old, may he rest in peace! Words can't describe the emotions after this tragedy for the kid's family. Much sorrow for the kid only!

What a crying shame. The driver obviously had no regard for the safety of himself, his passenger, other motorists. A lot of these people have lots of money, and tend to think that they own the road, and are above the law. Like I've said before, "The fast and the Furious" mentality prevails again. The old "I saw this in a movie" so anyone must be able do it philosophy. The bottom line is, SPEED KILLS!

The start of concrete barriers should always be protected with deformable steel rails, water filled tanks or simply a concrete ramp to prevent just this type of accidents. In my view, the responsible public or private entity for the road should be held partially responsible for the deaths. Accidents will always happen, but these deaths were perfectly avoidable.

I'm a survivor of a car splitting in half, but it was split horizontally. All I have to say is godDAMN. To Adrian-Hamburg, all cars today are made of plastic. In fact, if it had been an old car made of steel, they both would've still died probably. A car breaking apart dissipates the energy from the crash away from the occupants.

I just drove one of those at 130 MPH...On the racetrack in Las Vegas, where you are supposed to do it! You know how almost all of us, at one time or another did something stupid & knew was wrong, but lived through it and learned a life lesson? Well, if you're smart that is, you learned a lesson and didn't make the same mistake again. This guy however, Didn't learn the most important lesson until it was too late for him (oh well) but the young child who didn't even begin to live yet. Well, that's just a shame.

Could've been a heart attack......or another driver who did something to cause this guy to maybe swerve to avoid hitting someone and crash dead on into this barrier......a friend of mine who was and experienced off shore boat racer, also raced cars, and bought and sold Ferrari's, crashed into a sign on I95 last April in his 88' Ferrari after leaving the Barratt Jackson Auction in Daytona. He gave up the Off Shore Racing (speeds of 180mph on the water) and was racing for Nick Carter Racing car racing.......but was a very well accomplished and experience driver..... They think he may have had a heart attack as he had began to have heart problems at only 41. They maybe think someone cut him off causing his accident and his experience and skills made him dump the car off the road to avoid a pile-up......... He leaves behind a beautiful wife and 2 boys.....this story makes me think of him.......very sad. They called him Lobsterboy because they once owned a Lobster Distributor. RIP Lobsterboy: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/general-boating-discussion/274015-pray-lobsterboys-family.html We all thought he could've died so many times racing and a stupid car accident on the interstate was the cause. A MESSAGE TO EVERYONE: it's more dangerous on the road with inexperienced drivers than on the track with professionals at ANY SPEED!

Driving in this manner should be reserved for the track only, where conditions are controlled and predictable, unlike public roadways. Those who can afford a Ferrari or any other high-priced, high powered sportscar can definitely afford to rent some track time and satisfy their need for speed in a safer, sensible manner. Also, a more capable vehicle requires a more capable driver. Formal training on the track would be a wise investment for anyone contemplating the purchase of one of these rocket ships.

wow, how awful....it looks like, and i could be wrong, the road splits...i know here in the north east we use many huge palstic barrels filled with water (to lessen the severity of the impact) at these types of splits in the highway...not certain it would have made a difference or not...so sad...

This is something I never wanted to say.... But there is no justification for these cars anymore.. Speed Limits are such you cannot drive them to enjoy them.. Driving Skills and the Commonsense that goes with it seems to have gone right out the window...Being 65 myself(and fit) he should not have been traveling at High speed especially with the minor onboard

To all of you that say speed kills, Oh please. Get over yourselves.... Have you all ever driven in Europe? There are plenty of places where you can safely drive very fast. (some legal, some not, but...) 124mph is nothing. I don't know anything about the road they were on, or if it was a smart thing to attempt, but I agree, what the heck is a blunt concrete divider doing on ANY road? As also stated, that was probably survivable if not for the blunt concrete. I'm sorry for both the families, and in America, somebody is getting sued... (lol)

The first thing that came to mind was that they would have lived had it not been for that huge square shape of a concrete divider? Even if it was slanted like a ramp the car would have maybe flipped a few times and they'd have a living chance but a wall? Second they were at the grand prix, was drinking involved?
