When they took away our Ranger and we said that America still needs a small pickup, this isn't exactly what we had in mind. Smart threatened to deliver a diminutive pickup for the Detroit Auto Show, and deliver they did. Sure, it's adorable. But it's unlikely to be built. And seriously, we need an actually feasible small pickup. CAFE standards need to be reconfigured so that automakers aren't penalized for them, and/or the red tape holding up the importation of the diesel Mahindra needs to be torn down. Like I said about improving the Mustang, if Ford would only use the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 in more models, including both the Stang and Ranger, then we could have performance AND fuel economy. The Ecoboost is a good engine with plenty of power and still manages 35mpg in that cow of a Taurus they are shoving it into. Imagine what it could do in a lighter platform.
