ChAMber - 1. Number of reasons, it's a major city so anything is possible, also could have been left by another officer going through things in his trunk and forgot about it. 2. Yup he is. 3. Read the story, they never actually lost it. Losing it would be if someone grabbed it or the AR falling off of the car, it never fell off of the car and wasn't grabbed. It was more or less put in a very wrong place, but not lost.

I'm sorry but you'd have to be incredibly dense to leave a firearm in the open in such a manner. Doesn't really matter the circumstance, this isn't like leaving your coffee on the roof of your car...
