Back in 2009, an independent film company called Harvest Moon came to the Rochester, NY area to film a movie about the life of deaf MMA fighter Matt Hamill. Hamill attended the National Technical Instititue for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology where I went to school and currently work. I heard through the grapevine that they were filming the movie and looking for people to lend vehicles for it, so I sent some pictures of my 1977 Ford F250 Camper Special to the film writer and he decided to use it as the main character's truck.

After a weekend of polishing and cleaning I brought the truck out to the set of Hamill. I learned veteran actor Raymond Barry and actor Russell Harvard (who plays Hamill) would both spend a lot of time around the truck and I was psyched.  After a little show and tell to Mr. Barry, I watched as several scenes were filmed over two days. Below are some shots of the truck from the movie and some that I took behind the scenes.

Having won awards at three national film festivials, the movie is looking to be released later this year.  I can't wait to see it and watch my truck in action. Check it out at the movie's official website.

That's awesome, truck looks great! My dad and I prepped his '62 T-bird for use in a film once back in the day. But yeah, I'd be way too nervous about who'd be driving/touching/standing near my cars to farm them out for film myself. At the very least, the driver would have to be carefully screened and the extras would have to maintain a 10-foot radius.

that's a cool story. you see the one douch bag in the picture leaning on the truck. that's why i could never loan my van for film unless the paycheck was BIG.

My 66 Econoline was in a commercial for Microsoft here a few years back. I had it for sale on CL at the time as I was thinking of selling it. A guy calls me up and asks if I would rent it out for the filming and I told him that I don't let anyone else drive my van. So I ended up driving it to and from the Microsoft campus in Redmond Wa and Seattle Center and did the driving of the van in the commercial and I made about $400 a day as well it took about 5 days for the van shots plus I was on a paid vacation from work as well! It was a blast!

That's cool; my moms' Taxi was used in a Country music video 2 or 3 years ago. It was pretty neat seeing her car on T.V.

Since this was an indie film I didn't get paid. I just thought it was cool to be a part of the movie. And while I also never let anyone drive my vehicles either I wasn't that nervous about them damaging it. I do use it to haul lumber, stone, scrap metal, etc so some movie guys couldn't really hurt it. The worst they did to it was panic stop it in a gravel driveway in one scene and used it to haul the camera rig back and forth to location. Right now the truck is sitting in my driveway with about 1200 lbs of scrap in the back of it waiting for a carb swap so I can get it running halfaway decent again and get the scrap to the scrap yard!
