Vortech Supercharged 5.0 Mustang Kicks Serious Ass

How's this for awesome? Take your 2011 Ford Mustang GT, bolt on a $4,995 Vortech supercharger and go kick some Shelby butt. The Vortech supercharger helped bump the 5.0 up to 605 hp and 473 pound feet of torque. Of course, the Edmunds test car had a bunch of other bolt-ons, including Borla stainless-steel exhaust, Steeda billet lower trailing arms, a Steeda adjustable panhard bar, H&R Sport springs, Tokico D-spec struts and shocks, and beefier anti-sway bars. The car was also fitted bigger Baer brakes and 20 inch Modular Society Victor wheels shod with Nitto NT05 tires. The Street Scene Equipment body kit gives it a racer boy look I could do without, but this car is no poseur--Edmunds got their trick red pony to go 0 - 60 in 4.3 seconds and run the quarter in 12.2 seconds at 121.3 mph, which is faster than the Shelby GT500 they tested. Read the full article at Edmunds and watch the video (just listen to that thing!) after the jump!

I like Procharger Superchargers better if you want to go with a Centrifugal style instead of a manifold mounted twin screw type. Procharger has more than one to choose from, 7 psi or 10 psi which I think the 10 psi is the same 7psi with a tuner kit, but I could be wrong on that. On the site it just has 7 psi, tuner kit and then 10 psi. On the Ford page it shows the 10 psi setup has an 800 HP intercooler. Procharger also has the intercooler come in the kit while from what I've seen with Vortec you have to buy the intercooler separate.

Wish there was more noticeable noise coming from the S/C like the manifold style. Might just be the video though.

nes - I actually prefer less noise from a supercharger for the street. Non-street legal drag car I want all the noise I can get. But for something still street legal and could be used as a daily driver I prefer a little less noise from the supercharger for the simple fact of a sleeper. I love the noise but I don't want something to be a dead give away. Also with a Centrifugal Supercharger you can keep the stock hood or at least don't have to get a big cowl hood or some other hood that could give away. So those 2 things that can keep the sleeper look.

I'm not a sleeper type of guy. Plus this is a new 5.0, nothing sleeper about that. But in a commute type of way I can agree with you.

Well I know it's nothing sleeper about it, but I mean if you pull up beside another 5.0 you're a sleeper to the other car. Sleeper (at least in my opinion and in my book) doesn't mean just a car that shouldn't be fast (like a grandma car), it can also be a car that still looks stock but is far from it.

Just thought of an example. Imagine being at the local dragstrip and having a C6 Corvette but just a base model with the LS3. A Gen 5 Camaro SS pulls up beside you, looks completely stock down to the rims but sounds a little different so you assume he probably has an air intake kit and exhaust, maybe headers. so you think "ok no problem, same engine but I'm lighter and more aerodynamic and so on". Then green lights and he stays ahead the whole time and beats you. You then look under his hood and has an LS9.

I love it! But if I was going to own a 5.0, I too would go for a roots style blower over the centrifugal type. But you really can't go wrong either way, that thing is a beast!

Nice. Yeah, I'm satisfied with the 400 or so horses it already has. Kind of early to say, but it's more than satisfying from the factory. I added a CAI and a tune, that's about it for now.
