Alright boys and girls, per request here's Part 3 of the hot hatch series. We're all pretty familiar with the big-ticket European compacts of the era: the Ford Escort Cosworth, VW GTI, Lancia Delta HF Turbo, and the Renault 5 Turbo just to name a few. But there were some sleepers hidden from the mainstream. Continue reading below the jump.

Above, you'll see a stunning hatch from Austin/MG: the Maestro. Starting life with a 1.6L and then gaining a mighty 2.0L which was adopted by the Emergancy Response division of the Metropolitan Police of Greater London. During the last three years of the model's life span, MG decided to take a great motor and make it better. The addition of a turbo raised the top speed of the car to 130mph with a 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds, a respectable time even by today's standards. With a production run of 500 + 5 press cars, sales weren't great compared to the "standard" model.

Here we have the "ugly duckling" of today's batch, the Opel Corsa Sport. With a motor and suspension from SR and a pair of Weber 40 carbs, it was sporty but the worst of the bunch. A stunning 93 horsepower and a top speed of 112mph, winning on the drag strip is only possible if you're racing a kid on a Huffy. It did suffer a mid-life crisis and had a facelift but lost the "Sport" model in favor for the GSi model with a top speed of 116mph.

Holy square flares, Batman! The Citroen BX 4TC looks like it would cut you up while you washed and waxed it. This particular model was Citroen's official entry in B-Spec Rallying. It didn't resemble the rest of the BX lineup because of the enlongated nose and killer square flares. The drivetrain layout was also very different from the rest of the lineup due to a longitudinally mounted turbocharged motor. Though the BX 4TC never faired well on the back roads and placing 6th place in the 1986 Swedish Rally. Of the oddballs listed, it is the rarest, with only 200 available to the public. So if you're going to Europe to buy a sweet classic hatchback, look for the more plentiful models like the 16V, Sport, GT, or GTi.
