2014 Ford Mustang To Get Global Styling Input

Now, why does this make me nervous? It's one thing for Italian design legend Giugiaro to do a concept, but another for Ford to approach the Mustang as some kind of global project. But apparently that's what they're doing. According to Automotive News, "Ford's next-generation pony car will be the first Mustang with styling themes proposed by studios in Europe, Australia and other regions." Still, I trust J Mays and his team to do the right thing--after all, they did pretty good job in 2005 and 2010. More at Automotive News

I'd say to stick to the look they had before, after all that's what makes a Mustang. You don't want all the car companies to have the same look

I'm sorry but... The Mustang is, always has, and always will be an AMERICAN icon. We get shut out in the dark on all kinds of cars that make their way around the world except here, so why should anyone else get to pick and choose what OUR car looks like? Ridiculous, I'm very disappointed in Ford right now...

I like the idea but at the same time I don't think its the best one ever. They should stick to giving it the American classic style that gives it its character instead of a look that everyone will like

I hope that they keep the Mustang true to it's heritage as a Pony Car. I know a lot of people would like to see a IRS (Independent Rear Suspension), Double Clutch Transmission, V6 Turbo, Adjustable Suspension, 50/50 Weight Distribution, Aerodynamics, Weight Reduction... I'm one of those people; Just not on a Mustang! I am a detected loyalist and from being on the forums you get a sense of overwhelming pride, and ignorance from crusaders of both new and old. I think what makes Mustangs so sought after is: The history, aftermarket support, price, reliability, style, comfort, and being the under dog. I'd love to see everything I listed on the Mustang but I think it would take away from the Mustangs multitude of owns. As it is right now you can set it up any way you want the car. With 2010-2012 Mustang seeing even less after market support I can see a lot of vendors with drawing the more Ford tinkers with the Mustang; due to it being a more complete car. I know I own a Mustang because I couldn't afford to go out and get a car that was 60g all in one shot. But threw budgeting my money I was able to make the car I wanted to drive. I'd hate to see the Mustang turn into a M3 with a sticker price not obtainable to Working Class people. As it stands from the knowledge I know (From the bias MotorTrend) The New 5.0 Boss Leguna Seca. Is an equivalent car to the M3 as it stands right now. With a mechanical feel so as a driver you are still connected to the car apposed to a lot of cars now a days where electronics step in and make the car better. A Mustang is like new Boots you have to get use to them, break them in and get use to them. I'd hate to see it turn into Leather shoes... My argument is based upon the improvements being aim to make the Mustang a business sports car with the price to match. If Ford is able to keep the price down while delivering a better quality car I'm all for it. I guess I'm sour about losing the Live Rear Axle because you can do stuff like this for track use http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/attachments/18267d1195421335-12-gr.jpg and so on and so forth if there is something you want to do with your a Mustang there is a vendor to help you get there. I like what Porsche has been doing with advancements in technology they have kept the same formula, and used technology to make it better while having the same mechanical feel. I feel as of right now Ford has the same thing going for it. With there wagon style suspension out performing most top sports cars well beyond it's price rang http://www.fastestlaps.com/ Just my 2 cents...

@Fordguy66 - Agree, and would like to make a counter point; Ford is not the only manufacture that is doing there RND over seas, all manufactures are doing so before entering a car into primarily the American market which is the most competitive, and highest grousing market (Kudos). Most of the domestic cars that are developed here are engineered so that any individual can do basic task to there vehicle such as change a light bulb, put on a spare tire. Change your spark plugs; however other manufacturers abide by a different manufacturing code. With the intent to bring in revenue servicing cars rather then creating loyalist (Sorta). I'm afraid of the future but trust Ford to continue making good decisions with the excepting of holding out on a phew cars North Americans want. I'd love to see what an overseas style department could do to our ICON but am afraid how it might turn out. Muscle Car (Pony Car) is a look, style, lifestyle all in it's own and I can see that being affected with this project.

I can't think of a car GM from 2009-2011 that didn't have a European counter part for many years before it's North America introduction. And all of them have went on to win countless awards here. Example: Saturn Aura, Pontiac G8, Saturn Astra, Chevrolet Malibu, Buick Regal, Chevrolet Cruze... The list goes on; sorry to say but we are use to a lower standard build quality. That has nothing to do with how good a manufacture is just the codes and conducts they have to abide by here.

A lot of Fords current line up has a European counter part which some believe attribute to there current success. I think we just don't like the feeling of Manufactures telling us what to like. Because we already have in our head what we think we like; but can't say for a fact because we don't know what else is possible. Bring on the new Mustang! don't tarnish the icon we have grown to love... Please

Nooo, don't let other countries touch the Stang. I like the Muscle style that it has now and had before, if I wanted long sloping exotic body lines I'd buy a Euro car. You let foreign designers mess with it looses its American heritage.

Umm... am I the only one that thinks that nose looks like a Scion TC in disguise?

I hate to say it but the future is looking ugly for us muscle car guys. Why don't they go back in time. Then again they forgot what beauty looks like. Example : 67 gt500= better than sex. If they go global there's no american muscle for ford. Just throw ur pride out the window now.

@shmak1982- now that you pointed it out, it looks shockingly like the TC front end. that disgusts me. not that i hate the TC, but a mustang should not resemble one in any way! good observation!

@78-montee - I agree with you but I prefer the looks of the 1969 GT500, and think the 57 Chevy Bel Air is the most beautiful car ever made; Plus I don't know what kind of sex your having but I'm pretty sure your doing it wrong...

And remember when Ford tried to release the Probe as the New FWD Mustang? Why does this surprise any of you?

I was all excited when I originally saw the new fleet of muscle cars coming out. Now they are all looking the same. To me this looks almost like the new Caramo. Oh joy another white good with power... I miss unique looking vehicles.
