The Barrett-Jackson phenomenon has jacked up the price of just about anything old, since everyone with a stock four-door Valiant now thinks he's sitting on some goldmine. But some vintage cars, for whatever reason, have escaped the insanity and remain at vaguely affordable prices, even if they're relatively rare, have two doors, and are not Elephant-Man ugly. Like, how is it that you can still reliably find a mint '61-'63 Thunderbird for $10K? I realize that early 60's styling isn't for everyone, but these aren't bad cars. My dad had a '62 convertible and it beat around like a champ on its unrebuilt 390 V8 well into the 90's.

How about you? Have any of your favorite old rides stayed freakishly affordable?

i love my model AMX, if it wasn't pretty much a gift i'd still buy one for around 7k(cdn) for a decent one. Apart from that i'd love nova, must be a 2 door with no engine or trans. That way I can shove something huge in it.

You used to be able to buy pretty nice AMC cars 10 years ago for under $1000. Now it seems even those have doubled or tripled in price. I guess $3000 for a nice driver is still a bargain though.

I don't own one (yet), but I'm always surprised how cheap you can find a Datsun 240 Z on Craigslist.
