There has been a lot of buzz recently about Toyota’s budget minded rear-wheel drive FT-86 sports coupe. Truth be told this is one nifty little bugger and if the rumors of a Subaru derived 305hp / 290 lb-ft turbo 4-cylinder are true, it’s also going to be an absolute pistol to drive. The FT-86 will be built under a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru. However according to Toyobaru.net, U.S. residents will be seeing the FT-86 badged under the Scion nameplate as the Scion FT-S when it eventually hits U.S. shores. There are also rumors of an AWD version to be released under the Subaru nameplate with a price tag that could be upwards of 40k… that’s big money for a little car that would be a pretty close competitor to Subaru’s own 4-door STI. Production of the Scion FT-S is rumored to begin in the 4th quarter of 2011, so stay tuned for more information. Read more Toyota stories at RideLust

I know the Scion brand needs help right now but I think it's a mistake not to sell this as a Toyota. And get ready for the Subie version to be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No matter what its badged as or priced as....its gonna sale. Companies know that, thats how they get away with many things like GM putting a vette engine in everything they make and boosting the price. or Ford changing one small trim piece and calling it a "special edition" and everyone eating it up. If it was a high reving, high RPM, NA, rear will drive only it would be built for the fans of the orginal AE-86 then it would be about the fans of the orginal. Thats not the issue so gotta make due with what they put out

I think that's the right call from Toyota. This doesn't really fall in Toyota's line-up of sedans, trucks, and SUV's. The aim is to reach younger adults and that's what they created Scion for. The Scion brand has a huge following and this car will definitely take that brand to the next level. Can't Wait!

Man the car looks bad as hell but i would not pay no dayum 40K for a 305 hp car. The looks are very stunning though. It looks like a cross between an LFA and a 350z. I think they should have left it under the Toyota name because man they need some kind of mid priced reasonable sports car. I mean what do they really have now thats sporty and can keep up with the Camaros and Mustangs without breaking the bank?

Selling this right alongside the tC as a Scion would be a mistake on their part, unless they place to repalce the tC with it. The tC is Scion's sporty car, and its not bad, but next to this the tC will get next to no sales.
