Looks like Toyota decided to tone down the design a bit, but at least they still plan to build the thing. This "FT-86 II" concept will be rolled out in early March in Geneva, and should look pretty close to production version. Very slim press release after the jump!

New Toyota concept to hint at next sports car

Brussels - The 2011 Geneva motor show will mark the premiere of a new evolution of the FT-86 sports concept vehicle presented for the first time at the 2009 Tokyo motor show. The FT-86 II concept will give the clearest indication yet of the final design for Toyota's next sports car. Toyota has over 50 year-long history of creating exciting sports cars, and this new concept embodies the company's reborn passion for sports car driving.

"The only thing confirmed for the initial launch models so far is that the Toyota and Subaru versions will be identical save for styling and both will only be powered by an N/A 2.0L Subaru 4-cyl. That is it. No STI engines, no AWD versions. Supposedly this project is already running over budget so if there are any higher performance models it's doubtful they would arrive until later in the generation."

carsick... look back at Subie's past... they have in the last few decades come to grasp that AWD is their saving point and marketing tool... but i cant wait to finally see the road going model... cause this teasing me with a working class man's sports car alternative to the Miata is getting old... the only competitor to the Miata has gone the way of the Dodo bird and you can only buy them used....

Yay. Flat fours. I was hoping for a Toyota Powerplant, and Subaru engineered 4wd.

Well wasn't the big deal that it was boosted too? N/A 4 banger won't make that much power I think. I'm cool with the RWD only version for now since it's supposed to be something similar to the old AE86. Carsick remember this is a Toyota also.
