How Important Is Your Garage?

For some a garage is simply a place to park your car, for others it’s a place to store that extra refrigerator, and yet for others like myself, the garage acts as a getaway from the daily grind. My garage is nothing exciting, in fact it’s a downright dismal place to be as it’s not big enough, it’s not long enough and it’s made of old leaky concrete. That means that hanging shelves and sealing it up tight during the winter months can be somewhat of a bitch. But this garage is what I have so I can’t much complain, as having a private place to store your car in Queens, NY is somewhat of a luxury. As a car guy though I’ve always yearned for a garage with at least 3 bays, a nice tiled floor, room for my tool chests and perhaps ceilings high enough that I could put in a lift or two. For me that would be the ultimate.

How about you? What does your garage get used for? And how much in your life would you give up before giving up your garage space? Read the rest over at Ridelust.com

Well I don't have a garage but I'm hoping to get a house with a 2 car garage one day. It will be the place I work on stuff and to get away if I need to.

The garage at my house is too small for my Mopar, so I have to rent something about a mile away. And I don't get over there as much as I'd like....

My garage is an old horse stable that was converted to a garage for my uncle's aracing days. After he quit, My friends ad I use it to work on our cars. It too, is leaky, and very moist. Rusty tools, old race parts, stolen street signs. It's awesome.

I live in an apt and i wish so badly i had a garage. I got tired of paying $125 a month for a garage space there so now my baby bakes in the sun day after day....after day. I would take a moist ol garage as long as it had a roof...... as of right now anyways.

I'm very happy to finally have a garage. It's a 2 car and is attached to the house. It isn't big enough to hold my truck, so it has become an oversized tool box. I've done the nasty work outside in the driveway, sandblasting, welding, and usually run the air tools out there. Neighbors hate me, But I've been able to fight off fines. I would love to have a detached metal building...(I don't like having welding gas so close.) Out in the country, on a massive cement slab!

I've definitely gotten to the point where lack of a garage is a deal-breaker for me when it comes to living space. I've got to have at least one space to keep the GT out of the weather, and preferably a second space in which to have something else all apart. Right now I've also got 2 rental spaces in a storage garage near work. Keeping cover over my four cars is pretty much the ongoing struggle of my life, and an enclosed space in which to work on things and keep tools is imperative. It rules out a lot of possible cities that I might otherwise be able to live in :)

Don't have one and don't need one. Pulled an entire transmission and put the new one in in a small parking spot in some apartments I used to live on. When my upper control arm went bad I parked in front of the GameStop parked it overnight, came back the next day and swapped the new one right there and then, people were staring but who cares!

I don't have a garage. A friend has a garage, more like a shop actually. All that's missing is a shop lift and oxyacetylene/welding equipment... and we're working on filling those needs. Whenever I'm there I'm working on cars or trucks. He is partially disabled and used to do all of his own work, and has auto body/painting experience... we're closing in on refinishing my Camaro, a couple of GMC 2500 pickups, then my Supra after the trans is finished in my 'Prix. I'm looking forward to learning how to paint with professional gear. Garages rule, wish I had one on my property but I'm glad I have this arrangement. It's even better.

When we went house shopping, the first item on the list was the garage. The main door was measured to make sure it could comfortably fit my 66 Impala through and then an inspection on the inside. I currently have a two car garage with a workshop sectioned off as it is longer than standard, and the compressor is located in the garden shed with lines running through-out the garage. I would be lost without a garage and would drive the missus batty, so she's happy to see me with one just for the peace and quiet (in the house anyway!)

definitely want a garage in any house I own. I've got my car in the family garage now, but it is chock full of storage stuff, so I don't have room to work. One day, I'll have a nice little house and a garage almost the same size lol.
