Yet more inept-driver hijinks from what's currently the near-vertical skating rink of Seattle's roadways. You'd almost think they'd never driven on ice before. Except the one pickup truck that saves it by gunning the gas down the hill then swerving hard right into a side-street after almost taking out a pedestrian. Hammer down, that's the way to do it! Follow the jump to watch.

Why do people insist on driving under this conditions? Unless is a life or death emergency I don't see the need to be going outside.

The snow came in at 3 in the afternoon just before everyone left work for the day. Some people sat in their cars on I-5 South for over 10 hours trying to get home.

what a shame.... too bad for them! Should have stayed home. But finally someone who gives it power down the hill instead of laying on the brakes. Good man!

The ones locking it up just hit the brakes to hard, should slow gradually. It's fine to drive in the snow but on ice it's no reason to drive on it, but if you're at work then I guess you'd rather try to get home than be stuck at your job.

This has been entertaining, even funny... but the bus, that's it. Why the hell is this road in this condition? Have these people never heard of road salt? W-T-F. I really wish my exclamation point worked right now... wait I'll copy 'n paste one from Corolla's post... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...that felt good, but I want a reasonable answer, assuming there is one.

Oh question for people in Seattle, is the public transportation there forced to keep active even under these conditions? What if a bigger accident occurs (like the bus in the video) and someone gets hurt or dies because of it? Are they responsible? Or do they play the "Oh they knew what they were getting into" card?

The 2nd one looked kinda fun to do though, but not my way to try doing a 360 or 180 while moving.

nes - I don't live where it's public transit but most likely those drive have to stay out until they're called in to park the buses. Hell they might be the kind to let them stay out until one of them gets into any kind of accident. It looked like that first bus (probably the other one that came up did to) had chains on the rear so that's why I'm thinking the drivers have to stay out until they're called in to park them and go home.

haha, glad I could help you with the exclamation point. Yeah the bus was like what the heck? But my biggest thing is that people drift down the hill and then stop there. Like the firetruck, it went down the hill and just stopped there. Right where everyone will fall down the hill and hit it!

Yeah makes sense that they wait until they get called to park it, but why wait until a bus has an accident to do so?

I don't know, I was just saying for all we know that's what they do. I would say normal snow is fine to drive in but if it's ice then park them. I guess the city wants to make whatever money they can but then it wouldn't make them money if a bus has an accident and lawsuits start flying while still paying to have the bus fixed (if it's not totaled). Plus you have to pay the drivers and for the fuel and I doubt the buses have enough passenger to pay that little part of the overhead to be worth it. So I'd say snow is fine to drive in but once it starts to get icey bring them all in. But what do I know right? lol.

Are there no alternate routes that the traffic can take that's more level? I wouldn't dare drive on a hill that's that bad in the ice.

The wheels on the bus (didn't) go round and round, round and round, round and round the wheels on the bus (didn't) go round and round but it damn near knocked a pole down.

We have a few days like this every year. Most people with snow tires get around fine but some are either hopeless, with terrible summer or all season tires, or don't read the road conditions and don't understand physics. I get along fine in my RWD Nissan with some winter tires unless its deep snow and then I have a ground clearance problem. First snow storm we had this year I ended up pulling someone out of the ditch in my Jeep. 4x4 with winter tires and a tow strap and most people can be pulled out, even if they don't even say thanks after you help them...
